Project Aims

The aim of this project is:

  • engage with teachers who are travelling to Uganda or India as part of the Global Schoolroom programme
  • support them in collecting information and data on the locality when they are in Uganda or India
  • work with them upon their return to develop a range of curricular materials, explicitly linked to a number of syllabus areas and drawing on and illustrated by their rich knowledge of Uganda or India
  • pilot these materials in a number of schools
  • prepare the material for dissemination to schools more generally

In doing so the project will utilise an alignment between:

  • teachers who are knowledgeable about their subject area and its syllabus
  • the same teachers who are knowledgeable about a given locality in Uganda or India
  • the curriculum development experience in the Department of Education and Professional Studies at University of Limerick
  • the action research capacity of the Department of Education and Professional Studies at University of Limerick
  • the project’s links to post-primary schools in Ireland

The project will be supported by an action research project officer for whom supporting, documenting and researching the process are part of of a doctoral study. The Department of Education and Professional Studies will seek to raise €50,000 to support the costs of this project officer for 2 years.
