Module 1 - Classroom Teaching
Module Description
The aim of this module is to facilitate the student’s exploration of the role they play as teachers. It will introduce/re-introduce the students to such concepts as multiple intelligence, lesson planning, resources, questioning, positive discipline, reflection, assessment and evaluation. It will highlight the teacher-pupil relationship and the important role the teacher plays in the development of the child.
Intended Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module students should be able to:
- Identify own learning style and compile a learning-style profile for one of their class groups.
- Use a range of teaching, learning and assessment methods.
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of teaching and learning to pupils of average ability.
- Begin to demonstrate an understanding of teaching and learning amongst students with special needs.
- Promote positive classroom behaviour
- Begin the process of evaluation of own teaching.

Lectures/Workshops 20 hours

Student Work/Assessment Strategies
- Students will produce a ‘Personal Statement’ articulating their hoped-for outcomes.
- A Reflective Diary will be kept, indicating development of teaching competencies throughout the course.
- They will present their own learning-style profile and the learning-style profiles for three pupils in their classes.
