Module 3 - Educational Psychology
Module Description
This module provides an introduction to psychological theories applied to teaching. It aims to familiarize students with practical strategies underpinned by educational psychology, to improve the effectiveness of teaching and learning in the classroom.
Intended Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module students should be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of educational psychology theory and practice that underpins effective teaching.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and needs of the learner at different stages of development.
- Display an ability to utilize differentiation, modes of assessment, motivational techniques and positive classroom management in the learning environment.

Student Work/Assessment Strategies
- Design and evaluate the implementation of a unit of work reflecting the psychology applied to effective teaching. This unit should be age and ability specific and should if appropriate reflect the need for differentiation amongst the pupils. The unit should include examples of assessment used and the criteria governing such decisions.
- Students should present three strategies employed to promote positive classroom management and three techniques to promote motivation within the class group.
