Self Help Africa

UCDSelf Help Africa has twenty-five years experience in bringing lasting solutions to poverty for Africa’s rural poor. A wide variety of innovative technologies are used to assist the people they work with to achieve sustainability in their lives. Self Help Africa brings simple and effective innovations to farming, managing natural resources and helping people access basic services like clean water, healthcare and education. Global Schoolroom's initial visits to Africa were facilitated by Self Help Africa and this relationship continues to grow.

Self Help Africa was formed in 2008, arising from a merger between two like-minded charities: UK NGO Harvest Help and Irish agency Self Help Development International. The combined skills and complementary experiences of learning have been pooled together to form a strong, dynamic, and forward thinking new organization.

Both charities were founded in mid-1980s in response to the catastrophic Ethiopian famine and the droughts that plagued many central African countries. From the outset the vision was to help people manage their own futures with confidence.
